A signatory to the Paris Convention and to the Madrid Convention of 1954, Egypt has long been a proponent of intellectual property rights. Egypt has adopted the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks under the Nice Agreement and has been a member of the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks since the Act of Stockholm of 1967. Egypt joined WIPO in 1975.
